A postpartum doula is someone who provides support to a family during the postpartum period. This includes physical, emotional, informational/educational support. Postpartum doulas are trained non-medical professionals who understand and support the individualized needs of the families they serve.  A postpartum doula helps a family during the adjustment period of bringing their new baby into their home. They also understand that parents may need some guidance on what is normal for postpartum recovery, newborn care, breast, and bottle feeding. A postpartum doula works with families by supporting them with current health and care guidelines for the whole family, giving them confidence in the care of their newborn and set them up to have a successful postpartum journey. Always remember this is a very intimate and special bonding time for the family. Do your job but also allow appropriate space and time for them to do this. Be professional and understand that privacy is very important too, not only in the home but outside the home as well. You should know and respect boundaries while still building positive healthy relationships along the way
